GLANMIRE CAR BOOT SALE GOES ONLINE
In keeping with the times (the 21st Century) many businesses and events have turned to the digital world of the internet in order to continue operating. Glanmire News Area can exclusively reveal that the latest addition to the internet is the Glanmire Car Boot Sale. Over the years this event has taken place in various locations all around Glanmire, from the car park at Sars Hurling Club to that bit of land out the back of Billy Meaney’s shop where the merries would be sometimes but now there’s a Lidl. And now it’s going digital.
Entrepreneurs will be asked to set up shop - car boots open and tables or a simple old sheet on the ground to display their goods as per regular Car Boot Sale rules outlined in the Car Boot Sales of Ireland Memorandum Of General Rules and Etiquette, 1987 - in their home driveways. A desktop computer with an attached webcam, laptop, tablet (digital) or smartphone will be required to face the seller’s stall so as to stream live for the sale using a digital video conferencing website or app.
Car Boot Sale in happier, less global pandemic-ful, times
Glanmire Car Boot Sale President, Garry O’Farrell (58), tells GNA; “We spotted a gap in the market. After ascertaining whose stall should’ve been in that gap we contacted the seller to find out why they hadn’t showed up and were told they were afraid of the coronavirus. We had our suspicions that this was the same reason there had been a distinct lack of punters at our market over the past few months. My nephew, Garry (23), told me about something called Zoom which he and his butties were using to do what he called ‘virtual quizzes’ online. A few days later my wife, Mary (57), asked could I not use this Zoom thing to bring our Car Boot Sales onto the internet and just 2 months later, here we are. I’ll tell you, it feels like I’m in Back To The Future.”

Expect an announcement very soon on when this groundbreaking Car Boot Sale will be taking place.
